Leah's Beach Birthday - Part 1: Mom Guilt and a singalong

Posted By: Leah
Before I talk about the loveliness of the beach. I have to talk about the stress and mom guilt I was under prior to leaving last week. I know I've talked about Gav being sick with the norovirus a lot, but it really had me worried about him. He's never been that sick before. . . . Ever. I knew he'd be okay and in good hands when BF and I went to the beach to celebrate my birthday, but I still worried. I mean, look at this super tired angel? My heart went out to him. How could I leave him? This picture was taken on Thursday morning.
By Thursday afternoon of last week he was feeling a lot better. So as a fun (to Gav, he's 5) outing, we went and got my car washed. I was just happy Gav was able to stand up and not be super tired.

By Thursday night Gav really was fine, like for real. So when BF arrived in town, we went out to eat to celebrate my bday early at The Red Onion. If you've been in Greensboro, NC downtown you have for sure seen Katie, the Hotdog Lady. She's worked her cart forever. Or at least since the late 90's when I got to UNCG for college. I always felt sad for her, but someone told me a while back she was pulling in good money with her hot dog cart and fresh squeezed lemonade. And they were right. Sure enough,  Katie recently opened up an amazing gastropub in downtown Greensboro! They do fancy-pants hot dogs! I got a chimichanga dog, a Washington apple dog, and gav got the squid dog below. (What? You wouldn't feed your child who's been sick hot dogs and mac and cheese? pshaw! you would to get him to eat. ... and He ate about 1/4 of it).
I forgot the names of BF's hot dogs (below), but oh my... they were each AMAZING! If you are ever in Greensboro, you have to check this place out!

We came back to my apt, Gav was really feeling tired again and we all got to sleep. Gav was able to go to school last Friday, and was almost totally better (but my mom-guilt was still there).

BF and I left and stopped at Cup A Joe in Raleigh on the way to the beach. This is seriously the BEST coffee and Tea. We go there any chance we get (which is not as often as we wish it was). I got the iced Hong Kong tea. So so good.

After that stop we spent another 2 hrs in the car. We listened to some of an audio book on blogging (really! we did!)  and a lot of the T.I. pandora station. We even had a Big Tymers "Still Fly" singalong.

Actually, lets just pause and have another singalong now.

Gator Boots, with the pimped out Gucci suit Ain't got no job, but I stay sharp Can't pay my rent, cause all my money's spent but thats OK, cause I'm still fly... got a quarter tank gas in my new E-class But that's alright cause I'm gon' ride... got everything in my moma's name but I'm hood rich da dada dada da
No really...  go up and hit play.
This is the song when I discovered lil wayne. I think it was '99. I was like I don't know who this dude is, but I LOVE HIM!!!!

...and after that, we made it to the beach! BF had packed all sorts of surprises for us for the weekend. He sent me out to the balcony and poured me a glass of wine. I'm not much of a wine drinker, but at the beach... um yes. BF knew what he was doing. In the meantime BF unpacked the cooler, made a charging station (we each have cell phones, ipads...), a sunscreen station (have you seen this pale skin!?), and got everything really set up nicely at the apt. It sounds like a little thing, but it was super thoughtful he took the time to do all that for us.
I sat there and did nothing but watch the waves.... for hours. It was so relaxing (well, after the work calls, and me freaking out that Gav had to go to after-school for what I thought was too long that day and yeah...  Even when Gav's well taken care of by others. It's... just... hard for me to give up worrying about him. Go away mom guilt)

But Clearly I wasn't suffering that much, bf knows that if he keeps feeding me with delicious (healthy-ish) things, I am happy (and yeah, BF put this pic on IG and FB of me. nice, right!?!)

We started getting a little hungry for real food and stir crazy at the condo. We headed up to the Surf City pier.

I had never been to the beach with BF before, and it's interesting how everyone does the beach a little differently. Right before we went out on the pier, he got a shrimp burger from the little grill inside of the fishing shop right there.
OOOMMMGGGGG this shrimp burger was legit one of the best things I've ever eaten... ever. The shrimp was so fresh and so lightly breaded. The bun was super soft and steamed. BF had them put on both tarter and hot sauce on the bun. Pure heaven in my mouth! And something I've never had before.
The weather was gorgeous... there was a really pretty sunset. It was a super relaxing and amazing evening doing nothing but hanging out on a pier with BF. I really think I'm getting old (I mean yes it was my 32nd bday weekend) but stuff like sitting and doing nothing is truly all I want these days. My life feels so hectic, it's great to just be able to relax and enjoy all that I have.

The sun had set and we were actually really super hungry. There were a lot of bars right there on the water, so we went into one called Buddy's Crab House and Oyster Bar. We were able to get a table right on the water. That's totally the only way to eat at the beach, right there watching the waves. Again, it's interesting what other people do at the beach.... I have never had oysters except gross raw ones. BF let me order food for us to split, but he suggested I get fried oysters. OMGGGGGG seriously? I wasn't thrilled at the idea, but got them anyway. so amazingly good. I have been missing out in life for sure not eating these.
Why is BF smiling? He took the below pic of me and was putting it on IG and FB lol.

It was officially my birthday at midnight and a full moon. Actually, a super moon where the moon was the closest to earth. All for my birthday ofcourse :)

Coming up next... waking up to over the top amazingness on my birthday. It was like Christmas, but only for me!!! So special. So so so so awesome.  Cinco de Mayo is the best bday day (always a party for me!) By then the mom-guilt had gone away, but don't forget bf has a hernia that has him in a ton of pain so I felt super bad for him. More on that next!
