Foxy Friday - Blood Type Diet

So... I've been trying to figure out what it is that I need to eat. Handfuls of candy and chocolate with cupcakes too for good measure, right? No? Dang. this sucks. I've been hearing a lot about the blood type diet and I am really, for real going to start it. Starting um... tomorrow :) no Sunday! FOR REAL.

You haven't heard of the blood type diet? Well let me give you some info.  The concept is that we all have different blood types, so our bodies process different foods more efficiently and even need different foods more than others.

Here is a c&p from good old WebMd which gives a summary of each blood-type. I'm an O neg (universal-yo! I can give my blood to babies! I'm a superhero!)
What you can eat -- and how you exercise -- on this diet depends on who you are.
  • If you're blood type O ("for old," as in humanity's oldest blood line) your digestive tract retains the memory of ancient times, says D'Adamo, so you're metabolism will benefit from lean meats, poultry, and fish. You're advised to restrict grains, breads, and legumes, and to enjoy vigorous exercise.
  • Type A ("for agrarian") flourishes on vegetarian diets, "the inheritance of their more settled and less warlike farmer ancestors," says D'Adamo. The type A diet contains soy proteins, grains, and organic vegetables and encourages gentle exercise.
  • The nomadic blood type B has a tolerant digestive system and can enjoy low-fat dairy, meat, and produce but, among other things, should avoid wheat, corn, and lentils, D'Adamo says. If you're type B, it's recommended you exercise moderately.
  • The "modern" blood type AB has a sensitive digestive tract and should avoid chicken, beef, and pork but enjoy seafood, tofu, dairy, and most produce. The fitness regimen for ABs is calming exercises.
Not so thrilled to learn "o" stands for 'old' but oh well. Do you remember my post from last week about the things I know I should eat vs not eat? I know I should not eat bread and cheese. It's sad but true. And sure enough, the blood type diet agrees! Also, I was not the best vegetarian. It's because I am not type 'a' I knew it was my destiny to eat chicken wings!

You don't know what blood type you are? Shame on you! Contact your local Red Cross chapter ASAP and get your donation on. Plus, they'll tell you your type there. You may be an 'o' like me and can donate universally and help babies too... no matter what their blood type is!

Wondering why I'm not starting this way of eating today? Well 1- I need to go to the grocery store (story of my life!) and 2- I'm going to First Friday tonight and the Indie Mart downtown with Gav.  Remember my kid-free vintage shopping post HERE? well... it's going to be kind of like that... but with cupcakes and Gav with me this time! The on Saturday it's the Mosic festival. Food trucks = my weakness. Truth.

  1. I'm O too. I'm positive though. I always thought it would have been so cool to be Type O negative because of the band. I know. I'm a nerd. I have to look into it. Since we are the same we can definitely be each other's suport!

  2. Well crap! I am an "O" too, but I don't eat meat, so I am pretty much gonna just be fat for the rest of my life.
