Simple Top Knot Tutorial

Posted By: Leah

What's up with top knots? It's just piling your hair into a messy bun on top of your head, right?
Well... sorta. Top knots are everywhere and they're here to stay. If your hair is long enough and you haven't embraced this trend yet, I've discovered the quickest and easiest way to create the perfect messy bun.

Sometimes people use a rolled up sock, a foam piece... all sorts of stuff to create height and volume. I used none of that. The only thing I used was two ponytail holders (as seen on my left wrist in the first pic). That's it. This cute look can be done anywhere at any time.

I've created super easy instructions for you! Creating the perfect top knot can take less than a minute.. seriously!

 1) Take all bobby pins, ponytail holders, etc. out of your hair (this is my post work, looking a mess, need to get a bang trim hair).

2) Put your hair in a high ponytail using the first ponytail holder.

3)  Split your hair in the middle so it cascades over the top of your head. Place the 2nd ponytail elastic around the  'bun' on top of your hair losely. I wrapped it 2 times.

4)  Wrap the remaining hair around the 'bun' and tuck under the 2nd elastic.  Messy is good.

That's it! you're done. No bobby pins necessary.

Thank you to Jess from IROCKSOWHAT  for posting this awesome video. It was totally the inspiration for my simplistic-style top knot. I always thought about 500 bobby pins were necessary. Jess uses mousse and hair spray and achieves much bigger volume. I like the more 'conservative' top knot... actually sort of looks like prom hair. Either way, you'll look adorable this summer. Perfect for everything from laying out by the pool to going to dinner. Let me know if you try it and how it turns out!

If you follow me on IG, I posted this photo last night. I was watching Food Network and on Sweet Genius  and they made a dessert resembling a bee-hive and used this quote. Super appropriate for this post, right?
