Happy Day of the Dead!

Posted By: Leah
Yay Halloween is over, Happy Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead! I was born on May 5th (cinco de mayo) and although I am not Mexican, I have always felt close to Mexican heritage and holidays because it seems like every body celebrates Cinco de birthday! (no, it's not Mexican Independence day, May 5 celebrates the Battle of Puebla).

If you are not familiar with Dia de los Muertos (translated: Day of the Dead) I'll give you a quick rundown. It is a Mexican holiday celebrated not only in Mexico, but in other countries as well. This holiday consists of family and friends coming together to remember their friends and family members who have died.

Think: Long Island Medium + a fiesta = Dia de los Muertos (sorta kinda).
What most people most associate with the Day of the Dead are calavera, which is spanish for skull. I think the sugar skulls are what first attracted me to really embracing my Cinco de Mayo birthday / Mexican holidays.
Recently, sugar skulls have gotten really popular in tattoos and also fashion.
I'm a fan myself, clearly lol!

Happy Dia de los Muertos! Celebrate and remember those who have passed away all the time, not just today. Keep an eye out things that remind you of family and friends who are no longer with us. No matter what you believe about what happens when loved ones pass away, we can all agree that their memories are worth celebrating. That is what Dia de los Muertos is all about!

PS- Happy Birthday Hello Kitty!
