Happy Bday Gav & BF

Posted By: Leah
The first week of August were Gav and BF's birthdays! Yup, both of the dudes in my life have their birthdays a day a part. Both leo's.

You remember what bf did for my bday back in may right? Check that out here.  So for BF and Gav I had to double it. I mean it's not a competition but... well I'm an event planner. So how could I not make BF and Gav's bdays a huge event?

Remember a few weeks back, it rained for like 10 days straight or something. Well, it did here in NC. ANyhow, that prompted me in choosing the location for BF's and Gav's bday celebration. I wanted something fun but INSIDE incase it rained. So with some suggestions from BF's mom, I chose Williamsburg, VA for the destination and Great Wolf Lodge for the hotel!

I looked at the map and Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg is like 4 hrs away so kind of a long drive for a Saturday morning. I decided we'd break up the trip. And on the way there is Richmond!

But I didn't tell Gav and BF where we were going. I just said for them to pack their bathingsuits, we'd go fast, and it was in another state. Oh! and it didn't matter if it was rain or shine...

A super special thing we did that I don't have photos of is when we stopped by Gav's first daycare. He went there from age 11 weeks - almost 3 years. The teachers were amazing! So many people hate on daycares and say they are so bad, but I am sooo lucky and to be honest, feel honored to have these wonderful women watching Gav and teaching him everything he needed to know when he was so young. The cool thing is every single one of his teachers were there!  Gav remembered one of them, just because we still talk about her a lot. The others I'm sure he had no clue.

I mentioned I didn't take photos, but I actually did something even better. Have you seen on Pinterest where people get Dr. Seuss' "Oh, the Places You'll Go" and then have the teachers sign, then give to the kid when they graduate HS or college or whatever? I did that for gav and had his daycare teachers sign! It's like a gift... for the future!

Anyway! So after that, we paid a zillion in tolls, because thats what you do in Richmond (true story), and went to pick up BF's and gav's super adorable cupcakes! I got them from a cute place called Pearl's.  I got myself one too... obvs!
Seriously. I had my own cupcake made.

So instead of giving them to bf and gav in the car to eat or something, I took them to one of the prettiest places in Richmond... Hollywood Cemetary. Ok I know, it's weird. And I'm not into death or cemetaries or stuff like that at all. But this cemetary is gorgeous. It's full of rolling hills and the gravestones are from hundreds and hundreds of years ago in all shapes and sizes. There are huge holly trees everywhere (get it: Holly wood). So we found a cool spot with benches overlooking the James river where we had the cupcakes. super cool!

We ended up leaving there and going to our hotel, the Hilton Garden across from where I used to work downtown. I think I went to the groundbreaking like 5 yrs ago or something. Anyhow although we were advised not to, we walked to Bottom's Up pizza, seriously the best pizza place ever.

We each only got one slice but they were huge. I used to go there w/ my friends from my old job all the time. And the pizza is still the same and delicious!

We got back from dinner and the hotel had left gifts for BF and Gav in the room. Something I know as a frequent hotel guest is that if you call and ask for a complementary amenity, they will totally give it to you! So chocolate covered strawberries for bf and a bag of treats for gav!

The next morning we went to Carytown, a really cute area in Richmond. It's sort of a hipster, preppy, hard to describe but really unique and fun area.

Although we JUST had cupcakes, it was BF and Gav's bdays, so donuts all around as well!

We then went to the Great Wolf Lodge in Willimsburg, VA

The Great Wolf Lodge is that place with the indoor waterpark and cool kid's suites. I'd say the hotel was ok... Gav loved his bunk bed with his own tv. It's a few steps from the lowest level Disney property IMO. But... the waterpark was a blast! It made up for the so-so room.

This was one of Gav's 1st times down the waterslide lol!

Gav's favorite was the lazy river in a life jacket lol.

There were super fun things too, but they were hard to get photos of. This is the boogie boarding wave called the 'Howlin Wolf' hahah.

BF at the top of the boogie board thing.

After a day in the waterpark we went to dinner to celebrate Gav and BF's birthday some more.

We got back to the room and of course I had another surprise planned for Gav :)

The next day... Historic Williamsburg, VA!
(check back tomorrow)
